12/09/07 Duff Seeds!

I'm sure we have all had some sort of failure with some seeds that we have sown and wondered if there could have been something wrong with the seeds themselves - I certainly have.
Well I appear to have proved that it does happen.

I sowed some spinach seed towards the end of last month - a reasonable sized patch which required two packets of seed. The two packets had both been bought in the previous month from different shops and they cam from different supplies.

The seed from one packet emerged within a week as I expected and have continued to do well. The seed from the other packet has not germinated at all. Both were sown at the same time, next to each other, in the same way, and hvehad the same watering.
Unfortunately I have thrown the seen packets away but I am sure I would have checked the expiry date - having seen old seeds for sale in the past.
