18/10/07 Storing the Onions
We are pleased with our onions this year having produced some good sized specimens. We plant them at different times during the year (have already planted two lots for next year) to get a succession of produce instead of one large harvest that needs to be stored.
The last of this years crop has lifted and laid out to dry and now needs to be stored
Ideally we plait the onions together by their tops and hang them under the eaves of the house where they get plenty of air around them. These onions had lost all their top growth so there was nothing to plait or even tie into bunches. Instead we have put them in a hessian sack in our coolest dark place (under the stairs). We shall keep a careful eye on them to pick out any that are not keeping well.
With luck, they will last until we are able to use the first of next years crop
