05/05/09 Thinning the Early Carrots
The early carrots (we have sown some later ones in the past few days) are comming up thick in the row and now need thinning - a tedious task. Although we always try to sow them thinly, you have to sow them thicker than you really need them, othewise you will end up with large gaps.
Don't be tempted to leave the carrots as they are, believing that you will be able to pull some out for salads, leaving a thinned crop - it just doesn't work.
At this stage, I like to thin them to approximately 3 cm spacing, allowing for some further plant loss. It may them be possible to remove every other one for use in salads later on.
