19/09/09 Sowing Broad Beans

Have just put plenty of broad beans in. I soaked them first for 24 hrs this year, hoping to get them off to a better start.
As they are a large seed, they need to take up a lot of water to start the germination process, and they will do this much quicker if you simply place them in a bucket of water overnight than they would in damp soil.

We always hope to have our first beans, eaten raw as tapas with a glass of red wine, around Christmas time.
