Vegetable Garden
One of the exciting aspects of growing vegetable in a Mediterranean climate is that due to the longer growing season, and in somecases a faster rateof growth, it can be possible to grow more than one crop per year on the same piece of ground.
Potatoes can be dug as new potatoes in April and May while some be left in the ground to grow and mature, perhaps being lifted June to August.
In August however, it is possibleto replant some of those potatoes, enabling you to dig new potatoes again at Christmas time.
On some of the potato patch (you not want to replant the whole lot for Christmas) you can grow some lat spinach to provide some fresh greenery for the winter.
Cucumbers, Melons and Courgettes will most likely be finished by the middle of August, allowing you to plant some brassicas for the winter or sow broad beans in September.
These broad beans, in flower before Christmas, were sown after a good crop of melons had been harvested.
